DMA blacklisted in Sarge

I have mandriva 2005 LE in hda and Debian 3.1 in hdb.
BIOS-enabled DMAs in both drives.
In hda, dvd's run smoothly.
In hdb, the display is shaky.
When booting hdb, somewhere in the display it appears:
"Disable DMA :blacklisted"
I try hdparm but bash does'nt recognize it.
Any kind soul around?

"apt-get install hdparm"

Then if you can set DMA put it on. If you can't you'll probably have to recompile your kernel for dma support.

Following your advice, I got 'hdparm', and got it running.
Unfortunately, the "hiccup" did'nt disappear.
I guess the kernel is the culprit.
Dear, be kind enough to guide me thru the recompiling process, will you?
Thanks so much !!!

There's a sticky on the top of the forum :P Kernel recompiling The option for DMA is in generic IDE drivers I think.
