Debian setup failing (Bad EIP value.)

I am trying to set up Debian 4.0 on a Dell Power Edge 600sc server, but the setup fails on load.
I get the debian startup screen (where I can choose enter or expert mode).
But when I try to load the setup it stops at this error.

Code:
Code: Bad EIP value.
EIP [e081b00d] pci_bus_clock_list+0xd/0x17 [hpt366] SS :ESP 0068:dfed9dc4
udevd-event[564] : run_program: '/sbin/modprobe' abnormal exit
I have also tried running ubuntu setup (versions 5.10-7.04) But it returns the same error.

Any help appreciated.

AFAIK a hardware problem. Try pulling pci cards and see if the installers starts. Your NIC or a Promise Ultra ATA card could be the culprit.

Ok tried pulling out the two raid cards I got installed. And the new one I just bought seems to be causing the problem, as the installer starts normally after I removed it.
The new card is a RocketRAID 1520 PCI To Serial ATA Host Adapter.
The old one is some ATA raid card.
I need to install debian to the new disks (mirrored with the SATA Raid Card) but not on the old disks.

Is there some thing I can do to get the new raid card working or do I need to buy a new one?

Try a very_new kernel.
It's an easy try and could fix the problem. Install new kernel, your old ones will be kept.

As I currently don't have debian installed and can't install it. How can I install the new kernel? Do I need to build my own debian cd with a new kernel on it?

You could put in an old hd and install debian on it. Might as well compile the open source driver then. http://www.highpoint-tech.com/USA/bios_rr1520.htm
The installer asks at one point if you need to use additional drivers, but I don't know how to achieve this without having a Debian install first to compile the driver.

I went to the store where I bought the card and was able to swap it with a Promise FastTrak TX2300 RAID card.
Now I am able to start the setup but the setup doesn't seem to see the mirrored harddrives when I am supposed to choose partitioning.
Anyone that knows anything about this?

Umm, might want to check out LQ's HCL before buying more cards http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/sh...t/3253/cat/303
http://www.promise.com/support/downl...ory=all&os=100

Didn't look very closely, but the card might have software raid instead of a hardware one found in more expensive cards.
