Hi,
I am trying to install Debian Sarge on an HP Pavilion 6645C (Celeron 500MHz). It boots from my CD-R in the internal CD-ROM drive. I type linux26 and pick language and keyboard layout. Then it detects hardware for mounting the CD. Then I get:
[!!] Detect and mount CD-ROM
Your installation CD-ROM couldn't be mounted. This probably means
that the CD-ROM was not in the drive. If so you can insert it and try
again.
Try again to mount the CD-ROM?
This is funny, because it booted from the CD. Does anyone know what to do? Thanks!
I faced the same situation when I was trying to install Debian Sarge 3.1 from DVD on my laptop [what a coincidence! Just not hp but toshiba].
It seemed to me that laptop's drive couldn't read the DVD. Instead of installing easily from DVD, I have installed from CD. Maybe it helps if you can "cd copy" to a blank cd. Sometimes laptop drives can't read from cd/dvd's.
Just remembered, my laptop drive couldn't read also SuSE 9.3 cds 2, 4 and 5.
I don't know what you mean by "cd copy" since that would still be a cd-r. It isn't a laptop though. On IRC, on OFTC #debian someone (DavidS) said it was a hardware problem based on dmesg. (Sorry I don't have the error anymore to post, but I can get it) But CDs work in Windows, which is really confusing.
