how toi install debian sarge with buggy installer?
Hello!
I purchased Sarge Debian 3.1 on 12 CD's. When starting installer from 1st CD (boot), it crashes at some point, so installation is impossible.
Seller of my distribution sad that I must use Knoppix for Sarge installation.
I took Knoppix 3.4 live, and made a knx2hd (hd install)
After installing, Knoppix, I did next:
- apt-cdrom add (for every CD from Sarge distribution)
- apt-get update
- apt-get dist-upgrade
Apt updated some packages from CD1 and CD3, and stopped.
After rebooting, I still have Knoppix 3.4 on my HD.
Please, how to install Sarge?
PS: I can't download any CD's (additional installers) from Net because I have poor dial-up (56K) connection!
Try reading this to help you decide if you want to try a daily build or not. If I were you I'd be getting ahold of whoever sold you the distro and demanding they provide you with a verified working copy of the borked CD.
I've had some bad experience with sarge netinst.
If your'e having trouble installing editional packages at the end of the process, just skip this stage and do it later with apt-get.
See this thread: showthread.php?threadid=250515
As I understand the net installer is much more user friendly (though Ihave no experience with full CD installation).
Getting the base system running was very easy for me - problems only occur at the end. On this stage Debian is already installed and mostly configured, so one can go about installing one's packages of choice.
