Debian menu items in duplicate

I noticed an odd issue in my Debian (etch) menu with the gnome desktop.

Applications -> Debian ->

all program entries in all the sub menus have been duplicated. I could go through and manually remove all the duplicates, but I'd rather find out if theres an issue with some package I have installed that caused this or something else..

Suggestions appreciated.

Thanks
