Completing a basic installation with apt-get?


Hi: I made a netinst installation (debian-9.4.0-i386-netinst.iso) without a network connection and as a concequence I only have a very basic install. How could I complete it now I am running the OS? apt-get?

Yes, but Synaptic would likely be easier that apt because you can browse the package list more easily. I'm assuming you have X and a GUI of some sort installed.

No GUI at all. I forgot to mention.

Well, it seems I don't have internet connectivity after all:

$ ping -c 5 google.com
ping: google.com: Temporary failure in name resolution.
Though 'ping 0' receives all packets transmited. No versed in networking. The easiest thing to test connectivity will be to download a full DVD image, so I have a GUI, and the web browser will operate or will complain.

EDIT: I have another linux os on the same machine, lets call it os2. Perhaps I could mount the debian partition and do a chroot and install the software on the debian partition using apt-get or synaptic from os2?

EDIT: Hummm... os2 is Arch and it uses pacman, not apt-get. apt-get is not installed on the os2 partition.
