... did you not receive an email confirming that registration? Buried within it is the statement that I quoted in message #11 - if you didn't send a "I'm not a bot" email AND GET A RESPONSE FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR acknowledging it, you won't be able to post.....
Richard (MQ)
I just went back and analized that message. The content is definately not plain. Seems that in order to work the forum one needs to do a four (4) part function:
1. register with the forum
2. confim with code via auto-reply
3. send a seperate e-mail "I am not a bot" message !
4. Receive an Admin Response message
All three steps contain different addresses. So--I have not yet done step three since I thought that the auto-reply (step 2) was the "I am not a bot" message they wanted (???) "at dsl.reg@gmail.com to let us know".
I'll do that additional step three today and see if I can post and if not I'll try the re-register thing. I now realized a seperate step 3 is needed after looking at the embeded message addresses.
As I said earlier, the board/forum and DSL may have suffered thousands of players because of discouragement with DSL support. A simple thing like this anti-SPAM event ( although needed ) served to show how complex the simple can discourage in general.
The DSL webmaster needs to look at how many have login's without posting any messages (read-only). This will tell the impact to the site and DSL usage/expansion/utility do to lost membership.
Thanks again.

I finally got into damnsmalllinux forums and left a message for Robert S. on his good book (with CD):

Writing this book was a real adventure. Finally forced to really document what has been created. It took just over one year to write. The challenge was to keep the book current, while I was still producing new releases of DSL. The book is very current, covers DSL v3.3. The sections start out simple and cover more advanced topics, so everyone can benefit.
I got your book and it's a great write for sure. I used the CD and installed DSL on a WIN XP using the DSL-appliance on top of VM-player. It works great except I cannot get on the i-net since it keeps looking for eth0 which I disconnected ( had ISDN there) after I got DSL installed and working of eth1.
I'm having a hard time finding network stuff to solve the problem. Of course, normal frustration and burnt out brain cells don't help for sure.
Anyway, I hope it sells well.
Good Luck

I got a message from the master a couple of days ago and just now had time to try out. Give it a little time and keep on trying . . . . . . . if I can do it, anyone can !
I recieved Email Generated by Ikonboard. Your "Unlock code" is ..... Please enter it into the unlock box.
Then » Welcome kcav45. But when I tried to post, it said, "Sorry, you do not have permission to start a topic ..."
.... replies from Ikonboard.
KC
Hi KC:
The message your looking for is not from the Ikonboard but from the site master (?), a different ISP address. It should come to your registered email address or the address where you sent the "I'm a real person -- not a bot" message. It may take some time since he/she may be getting a lot of messages. See my prior message on the four steps.
Have patience it will work.
Best
Paul T
Yes, I have the same problem as others with trying to get onto the board. They make you go through far too many hoops just to be able to post a simple question. Yeah, yeah... spam... whatever...
I notice this board doesn't make you go through all those hoops, and it works just fine.
