Question New installation - No GUI

Hi,

I'm absolutely new to Linux and have installed CentOS 7 from the DVD ISO file on an old Laptop of mine (HP EliteBook 8530p) to start exploring ;-)

My Problem is that Linux wont boot into a GUI but goes into a Command Line mode after displaying the following errors:

tpm_tis 00:01: A TPM error (7) occurred attempting to read a pcr value
drm:radeon_init[radeon]] *ERROR* No UMS support in radeon module!

I'm not sure if these errors have anything to do with it. Have tried out a few suggestions I found but they didn't work for me.

(installed it again, installation-Troubleshooting option,..)

yum -y groups install "GNOME Desktop"
--> Gives me the message There is no installed groups file

startx
-->Command not found.

Can anybody help me?

so you just dived in, head first, installing a server distro without reading the slightest bit of documentation (centos wiki => installation instructions etc.)?

are you sure you want a server distro? on an old laptop? is it going to be a server?

aside: radeon means amd/ati graphics - always a little tricky with linux. probably more so with centos.

Server editions of Linux don't usually include X, which is why your startx command didn't work. After all, who needs graphics on a server?

You want a Red Hat distro that works on a laptop? Use Fedora.
