Moving Out

For better or for worse I'm moving my blog to http://mowestusa.wordpress.com/.

Check out the first post on the new site for the reasons. I will no longer maintain the blog in two locations, since the new site has an RSS feed. I will keep this page up for an archive.

Speakers Do Make a Difference

I would consider myself an audiophile. I have not spent hundreds of dollars on my sound set up at home. I don't spend hours even listening to music. Podcasts have become my audio entertainment in the car, washing dishes, and when exercising. Yet, I have learned that speakers do make a difference. For years I have used the original speakers that come with desktops or the built in speakers in laptops.

This last Christmas, I put on my list new speakers for the computer. Well, I got some....

IRC Not Newbie Friendly

Most of you Internet savvy people will just laugh at me for this one. I will freely admit that I'm a little slow in adopting new technologies or old technologies that I have never used. I understand email. I understand forums. I understand static HTML sites. IRC or chat in general is not something I know or understand. Today proved how frustrated a newbie can become when exposed to technologies which they have never used or been taught.

Krita for Non Graphic Artists

Okay, I'm not next Michelangelo, nor should anyone confuse me with an artist. Yet, every once in a while I get the urge to do something with graphics. If you are visiting my site Free and Open Under the Steeple then you know that I'm more into text than graphics. In fact, besides the little validation button at the bottom of my pages this post has the only graphics on the site at the moment.

I tried Krita by accident. I decided to install Quanta+ to help me sort out some of the validation...

SSH Saves the Day

I'm sure many a Unix Sys-Admin has used ssh to save the day, but in my case it has kept me from going insane. I admit that I use Free and Open Source Software not as my day job, but to get things done that I want to get done.
