creating NTFS partitions in ubuntu karmic

Posted 02-12-2010 at 10:13 PM by jkzfixme

Recently I have had to give up one of my thumb drives as a keychain warrior. Being as the whole point is file portability I had to format it in the bastardization that is NTFS. So for giggles I checked out the Disk Utility program rather than go command line warrior like I usually would. I found it interesting that the ntfs option was there as it immediately kicked up an error.

Quote:
Error creating file system: helper exited with exit code 1: cannot spawn 'mkntfs -f /dev/sdc1': Failed to execute child process
So I installed the ntfsprogs and proceeded to format with extreme prejudice

Quote:
sudo apt-get install ntfsprogs
Hope this proves usefull
