It's the script to be run on Linux, which is meant to restore all the correct environment variables and the Ubuntu to the plug. Why PHP? Why not a bash shell script? The first time I ran it, it just echoed the file's contents to the terminal. That was because it had <? at the beginning, instead of <?php. I knew enough to fix that. But then it came up with two errors: one about the line regarding which...

After a minor hitch with cfdisk, the installation went smoothly. I must have done everything right (unusual, that ), following the excellent instructions by Stuart Winter (drmozes on LQ) - thanks. My next task is to set up tightvnc, so I can get XFCE. But that will wait...I'm hungry. Here, for those who like pictures, is another screenshot:

Got my SheevaPlug up and running, using the instructions from the New IT forum. I'll tackle the ARMedslack installation to USB stick later...sometime.

Whooopeeeeeeeee!!! Ten minutes ago the postman delivered the long-awaited parcel. Now I'm going to be as patient installing it, as I have been waiting for it to arrive. Going to read all the instructions here, and here carefully, before I do anything else.

Sent an email to NewIT, and got a reply. Apparently the latest batch of plugs have a "slightly different processor" (no details given), and that has meant them having to make adjustments to "the images they supply on the units and SD cards" (a modified Ubuntu 9.04, etc). So I should get it next week. Fingers crossed. I don't know how or if this change to the processor will affect installing ARMedslack. It's a wait and see situation.
