Post pppd died: error code 4 under kppp or wvdial, using Huawei e220

Hi this is my first post.

I can only connect to the Internet using mobile broadband on the frugalware machine (see signature).

Udev replaced devfs in the 2.6 series kernel but the documentation for ppp-2.4.4.x is a bit old, talking about populating devfs like in 2.2 or 2.4 or loading ppp device as a module. ie. Linux doesn't seem to detect the Huawei modem on boot.

I assume the kernel is past 2.6.20.x but is their a command to determine the kernel version so I can be of more assistance.

My printer isn't working. So is there documentation on the web to find how to load the usb serial device and ppp0 as a module?

I'm still a bit of a newbie with config files and command line. That's why I'm learning Frugalware for its simplicity. I installed the whole first DVD with all the graphic desktops and window managers.

Code:
uname -r
I'm not sure, but you have to disable network daemon and launch pppd instead. Well this is an Arch subforum, which has nothing to do with frugalware, it just uses Arch's pacman as package manager. I'd say you should report thispost and ask the mods to move this in Newbie Section: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-newbie-8/ as many people don't visit this subforum.
