Arch won't boot after install

I decided to try Arch the other day. I went through the install fine after looking at the online documentation, but when I rebooted the computer I ran into a problem. When the machine reboots, it hangs on the message "booting linux kernel" and displays a blinking cursor. Have I done something wrong in the install, or could there be a hardware conflict somewhere?

You could also try to append the kernel with an acpi=off.... sometimes that helps.

I used GRUB. Ok, I should also mention I have had the same problem getting Ubuntu to even get to the anaconda installer and it freezes at the same message.

Ubuntu doesn't use the anaconda installer... it uses a modified version of the debian installer...

sounds like you might be doing something wrong with grub. maybe you should post your procedure and config file for someone to go over. or else try lilo, see if you can get that to work.
