"read" option is not working in AIX ?

Dear Friends ,

I want to run a RMAN script with 'read' option . The script is :

read -s -p "Enter password:" mypass
rman target sys/$mypass <<!
run
{
allocate channel t1 type disk;
backup format 'df_%t_%s_%p'
(database);}

This script is working fine in Linux platform . Here , 'read' option is working and prompts for passwd .Thats ok .

But the problem is , In AIX platform this script is not working . Here without this line ("read -s -p "Enter password:" mypass")it works fine . But including "read" option this script shows error .
"Read" option is not working in the AIX platform .
Is there any difference to use "read" option in Linux and AIX platform ? Plz help me how to use "read" option in AIX 5.3 ?

Waiting for ur reply .. .. ..
