Help - can't extend logical volume ?

Hi,

Smit "Increase the Size of a Logical Volume" command failed. Output:
----------------------------------------------------------
Command: failed stdout: yes stderr: no

Before command completion, additional instructions may appear below.

The distribution of this command (111) failed on one or more passive nodes.
0516-788 extendlv: Unable to extend logical volume.
----------------------------------------------------------

What could be the reason for this ?

thanks
Vilius

Check if there is enough space in the VG , and also the number of Max PV's assigned to the VG.

If you can paste the output of

lsvg <vgname>
lsvg -l <vgname>
lsvg -p <vgname>

and also the syntax you are using for extending the logical volume
That would be great!!!

extendlv the logical volume

step 1: lsvg vgname
Check Free pp is there goto below step otherwise add a disk extend the vg using : extendvg vgname hdiskn :goto step :3

step 2: lslv lvname

i; see the parameter FREE pp .
if FREE pp is there means

run :lsvg vgname
i : see the PP size;

Multiple the PP size with FREE pp

step 3: Two command to increase the LV

i. extendlv lvname no.of PP

ii.chfs -a size=+(size of the file system you want to increase) /mount point name

I did this to increase the size of /home but when I try to download something to /home/username I still run out of space. Does the space added to /home not get applied to /home/username as well?

Nevermind, I figured it out. I was trying to use the syntax in the man page and it messed me up.

My PPs are 64M, so when I did Step 3 to add 150 PPs this is what I did.
Quote:
extendlv hd1 150
chfs -a size=+9600M /home
Going by the man page info, I was trying this.
Quote:
chfs -a Size=9664M /home

My first quote shows that I was able to do it. Notice the "Nevermind" statement. The second qoute shows what didn't work. Thanks for the explanation of why it didn't work.
