in your most honest opinions would you tell a friend which way to go?
Ive been stuck on having to use windows because i really dont have the time that it takes to reconfigure my laptop for the use of wireless drivers , I work on the road so i have to be able to login remotely all the time and with the linux and not being able to properly configure the drivers for the wireless card my question is ? will i have the same problems using bsd

Did you try installing the drivers from your manufacturer's website or cdrom? You can use a tool called ndisgen which is similar to ndiswrapper on linux.
Thanks for the advise, I ended up with ubuntu 6.10 and a lot of head banging and got the wireless cards working on bcm4311, now i have to figure out how to increase the speed ,its stuck on 11mbs

If its an 11B card, that's probably all you're going to get...11mb/s. You also have to factor in that if the WAP is set to mixed mode and even one client is connecting via 11B, any 54G card will only have a connection as fast as the slowest client...any 11B cards will make the WAP throttle down to 11B.
