I was downloading a program the other day and when I came back to the computer - maybe 20 to 40 minutes - the screen was blank. I am guessing that it went into some low power state like hybernation mode. The light on the monitor was blinking and a move of the mouse brought it back to life. I remember having this problem with Fedora, but this is not Linux. I am running NetBSD 3.1 with XFree86. Is there an option in the XFree86Config file that needs commented out to prevent this? I don't want any hybernation mode activated on my system.

Not sure of the name of the file but it should be in /etc/X11. Mine is xorg.conf. Look in it and see if there is line like DMPS ON. Is so Put a # infront of the line save and restart X server.

Mine is /etc/X11/XFree86Config. I first thought that it might be DPMS, but I couldn't find that it was used in the file.

Might add the line to the monitor section.
Option "DPMS" "false"

Not sure of any other files to check other than maybe the acpi settings. Check in /etc/acpi and see what is there.

If it's happening under X, try running "xset -dpms" from your terminal emulator and see if that fixes it. These symptoms could also be affected by settings in GNOME or KDE or XScreenSaver, etc.
