Hello:
I was wondering if anyone can assist me in installing Vector Linux on my dell laptop.
I used a great tutorial on installing Vector 5.8 Ste. Gold on my 128mb, 1066mhz, 18gb dell inspiron 2600. I burned the software onto a cd. I stuck it into my laptop, the little penguin in the first window popped up on my monitor. I selected the right kernel, hit enter and then bam, the monitor seems to display my hardware and then stops. My cursor is blinking at the bottom of the list, however I cannot do anything else. I then burned a copy of VL5.9 ste gold, and I am still having the same problem. I downloaded the md5 checksum but having trouble using it. If you have any suggestions, I could sure use them.
Thank You,
Jim

Perhaps you should change the brand of your media. In my experience this sort of thing happens when the disc is burned either too fast or not finished for read only playback. Try burning the ISO at a lower write speed.
Also state which of the four kernel choices you have made with the installer.
Thanks for the tips Thorn:
Change the brand of my media, do you mean another burner or cd brand?
Try burning the ISO at a lower write speed, I will give it a try.
State which of the four kernels I chose, easy, I chose all of them at least once.
I truly do appreciate your help.

Hi,
I was referring the the brand of CD-R media you are using. (Do not use CD+R because the drive in your laptop can not read discs in that format.
Usually there is a pull down menu in the software that you use to burn the ISOs. It should have options such as x32, x16, x8, etc. this will set the write speed of your drive.
Are you using the drive on the laptop?
Also state which CD burning software you are using.
I also suggest that you download the ISO from a different source to eliminate that as a cause for the problem.
