Installation not starting up

I am trying to install VL-std 5.1 on a PIII-677 Mhz machine using a CD i burnt from a downloaded ISO. i checked the ISO for the MD5 sum and it seems to be fine. But when i burn the ISO and try to boot the computer from the CD, its not recognised as a bootable CD.

I double checked that the CD-ROM is the first boot device (Knoppix seems to boot fine from the ROM). I even tried using the Live CD of VL and even that didnt work. Error message says "Disk read error". I put the ISO file on the harddrive and tried starting the install using the method outlined in the VL installation guide... didnt work. Error says "length of loadlin in Setup.S exceeded. Please email <someone person> about this problem".

Whats going on? Someone please help. I would give u more info about the CD ROM, but i dont have any... it looks like a generic brand. Right now, Im running Win 98 on the system.

When you look at the contents of the CD from Windows, do you see a lot of files or just the ISO? Sometimes, if the wrong settings are selected, the CD is burned incorrectly.

There are several files on the CD ROM. I replaced the CD ROM and got the installation started, but now i have a new problem.

The installation goes on smoothly till I come to the "Find installation media" screen. After this is displayed, the monitor just goes blank...(the green LED on the monitor turns to orange). If i turn off the monitor and turn it back on, it says that there is no signal from the computer. its the strangest thing, i have never seen anything like it before. i think there might be some issue with the video card (i dont have any details about the card). Has anyone seen anything like this before?
