wlan not listed?

Hello,

I'm running Ubuntu 5.10 (64bit) on a Presario R3000 machine.
The below problem was also seen in Suse 10.0.

When I run lspci I see the wireless card listed with all details. Though one line says "Unknown device: 12f8". I run ndiswrapper and everythingn is fine there. The drivers are loaded and the hardware is present. Though, if I try to configure the network, the wireless card is not listed to configure. (all in GUI).

Doing some research in this, I see this care is troublesome, many people have been able to get it to work with ndiswrapper. I follow the direction to no avail. I run iwconfig = no listing of wlan???

I'm not sure of how to get Ubuntu to see that there really is a wireless card.

Thanks All.

So I did some more poking around. Please see below from my syslog:

kernel: [ 1060.515397] ndiswrapper version 1.1 loaded (preempt=no,smp=no)
loadndisdriver: *** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x00002aaaaaaf4000 ***
kernel: [ 1060.613666] ndiswrapper (check_nt_hdr:145): Windows driver is not 64-bit; bad magic: 010B
kernel: [ 1060.613674] ndiswrapper (load_sys_files:456): unable to prepare driver 'bcmwl5'
kernel: [ 1060.614187] ndiswrapper (ndiswrapper_load_driver:92): loadndiswrapper failed (6); check system log for messages from 'loadndisdriver'

Is my problem really due to the fiel now being in 64bit? There was no entry of "loadndisdriver".

Thanks.
