unable to try ubuntu 16.04


using a windows xp desktop using a 2.8 pentium d with 3 gig of ram and wanting to try ubuntu;i am unable to so. the ubuntu
dvd shows as being downloaded and ready but if i want to try before installing,i can not?? i get the reddish orange screen
but no icons at all??

Prior to burning the Ubuntu iso files to the DVD as an image, did you do an md5 checksum to verify the download? See the link below for the correct md5 checksum for the different Ubuntu iso files.

http://releases.ubuntu.com/16.04/MD5SUMS

What is your graphics card? You may need the nomodeset parameter on boot.
