[SOLVED] unable to open websites

I'm unable to open websites like
linuxquestions.org
linuxforums.org
sourceforge.net
mail.yahoo.com

my distro:Ubuntu 10.04
browser:firefox 3.6.8,Google Chrome 5.0.375.127

I'm able to open these sites from my mac using the same internet connection.
I'm also able to ping these websites from Ubuntu.

Some pointers...
try to disable ipv6
Make sure the DNS servers are correct
