Ubuntu 21.10 locked up
Greeting folks,
My computer running ubuntu 21.10 locked up while the screen was locked.
Nothing stands out in the logs but I did have some outbound traffic blocked by the firewall. No idea what it might be, I'm just running normal desktop stuff, no services.

How old is the PC? What brand is its power supply? Have you run memtest86 to see if you might have failing RAM? Without some data about your hardware, it's very hard to guess what may be causing a lockup. Try inxi -Faz from a GUI terminal to show us about your PC. There could be clues in ~/.xsession-errors or /var/log/Xorg.0.log or grepping journalctl -b for aile .

It's a 7 year old HP ENVY TouchSmart Notebook. It's only locked up once as far as I can remember, but it's locked up twice since upgrading to ubuntu 21.10 two days ago. Memtest86 isn't on the recent ubuntu iso's but it passed a quick memory test from bios. The extensive test takes 4 hours. I don't have ~/.xsession-errors or /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

Wayland is still not ready for all hardware. Try running your X session in Xorg instead of Wayland.

To expand a bit. In
GDM , that option appears
after you entered your username, when you're on the password screen. For details, see
