Trying to access repositories from behind proxy

Hi,

When using my laptop at work I can't access any of the repositories to upgrade/install software. The error message synaptic gives me is:

Any way to get around this? Also, I don't know if it is related, but when in KDE knewsticker will access RSS feeds just fine, but in Gnome, feeds don't work at all - not weather applets, liferea or anything else.

Thanks,

Perry

Not to bump or anything, but I just tried accessing RSS feeds & synaptic from KDE. It doesn't work there either. It used to.

well, for the apt repositories, open the file /etc/apt/apt.conf and add the lines

Acquire
{
http
{
Proxy "http://yourproxyserverortnumber";
};
};

more details man apt.conf and examples in the file /usr/share/doc/apt/examples/configure-index.gz most probably

Proxy server was configured in synaptic. Settings are correct, some repositories seem to work, however depending on synaptic's mood, i get:

http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...6/Packages.gz: Sub-process bzip2 returned an error code (2)

followed by:

W: Couldn't stat source package list http://us.archive.ubuntu.com breezy/universe Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_breezy_universe_binary-i386_Packages) - stat (2 No such file or directory)

Thanks

Interesting....

changing everything from "breezy" to "dapper" in sources.list solves the problem...and upgrades the system as well...
