You can reinstall grub2 from the Ubuntu 9.10 live CD. Just follow this tutorial:
http://members.iinet.net/~herman546/...B_from_Live_CD
Here is another tutorial with essentially the same method to reinstall grub2:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub2#Recove...20via%20LiveCD
NOTE: These tutorials assume you are reinstalling grub2 to the MBR of your first hard drive: /dev/sda. If you have a different setup, then modify the commands accordingly.
An even easier way to reinstall grub2 to the MBR is to get a copy of the Ubuntu 9.10 alternate install CD.
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/down...rors#alternate
Burn the alternate install CD and boot from it. Choose the option "Rescue a Broken System" from the menu when you boot the CD. This will take you through the first few steps of a fresh install. You will not be reinstalling Ubuntu though. You will get to the part where it asks you to reinstall grub2 to the MBR. Select that and you are done. Reboot and grub2 should be able to boot your system.
