Now WTF?! Not Communicating With Scanner

Sometimes I feel as if I am still using Windurs!

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS:

Went to scan something today with my Canon Pixma MP160 - using Simple Scan.

Kept getting error message: "Can't communicate with scanner"- I turned scanner off/on again...did a reset....checked the USB connection/switched outlets....still nothing. Last time I tried using this device (months ago) it both scanned and printed with no problem.

Even tried reinstalling Simple Scan. And even tried the old Windurs stand-by: Restarting the 'puter.

Help, please, before I throw this whole computer out the window- always a problem! (Beginning to think I'm doomed to constant frustration regardless of the OS)

Right click on Applications and select the "Edit Menus" option. Click on System>Administration and make sure that "services is checked.

It should be in your menu and will be if you have that box checked. I pretty much gut the menus but that is one that stays put.

Hi, I recently had the same problem with a MP610 under aptosid (nee sidux) and the problem was solved by trying other USB ports! The printing was still ok but could not find the scanner.
Took three USB port changes but now its happy :-)
