New Install Issues

Hi all,

I did my first 7.04 install for a friend. Three issues came up.

1. I couldn't find a way to assign a partition to root, swap and home in GPartition (I think that's the name). That option wasn't intuitive - I ended up going with the automatic partition install, but I'd prefer to set up the partitions myself. I've done a few partition tasks in the past without event, so this is weird.

2. The example ogg video explaining the term "Ubuntu" was scrambled. I used the default video player (they didn't have net access). This strikes me as weird. Could it be the monitor - it is a 1990s relic POS e-machines monitor. I'm hoping it isn't the onboard video.

3. When my friend was playing with changing the wallpaper, the screen turned gray and totally froze up. It wasn't a solid gray, rather, it was different shades of gray lined up vertically with the average width of a color ~1".

Any help or guidance would be myuch appreciated.

TIA,

GNewbie

PS - The world has one more Linux user than before.

1) Shouldn't it work like this?

In GPartEd (which is a separate program from the installer, I think) you may have to click some Edit button to edit the mountpoint.

2) Check which video driver it's using (if it's VESA there might be problems). If the video driver is what it should be, then I guess it's the onboard video..monitor shouldn't affect that, unless it's doing the same thing for everything and not just the video.

3) Never bumped into..can you repeat it? If you can, file a bug.
