After reading
this article in eWeek I have decided to give Ubuntu a fair shake. I have come over from Suse where I started in v9 and I like the lack of bloatedness that this distro represents.
The product installed and functions flawlessly on my laptop which is an old Compaq Armada E500. However, at work i seem to be unable to install software and when I run update manager i am told there are no updates available even though i know this to be untrue.
I have configured the network proxy and I am able to surf just fine, but i cannot install new software or updates. At first I thought I missed something in Samba, but I can hit the M$ Windows resources just fine.
Please give me a shove in the right direction if you know what I should check. I am running Ubuntu 5.10 on a 2.8GHz P4-HT, 1GB RAM, 48GB SCSI Disk. The computer is a branded Dell Optiplex GX210.
I receive the following error: W: Couldn't stat source package list
http://archive.ubuntu.com breezy/universe Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_breezy_universe_binary-i386_Packages) - stat (2 No such file or directory)
Thanks!
