Question How to set CPU frequency?

Hi everyone,

The CPU frequency of my laptop changes from time to time:

Quote:
# lscpu
.
.
CPU MHz: 1734.000 MHz

CPU MHz: 1333.000 MHz

.
CPU MHz: 1599.000 MHz

CPU MHz: 1199.000 MHz
How can I set it to one frequency permanently?

It changes depending on load. You can force it into powersave mode, then it will stay on lowest frequency at all times, is this what you really want?

Frequency scaling is a good idea if your running on battery, as it'll save some juice. However if you really must :

Quote:
cpupower frequency-set -f clock_freq

I really would not recommend setting the frequency statically, as it will greatly increase power usage and heat, and you will see little performance benefit. The ondemand governor scales your frequency to be what you need, and it is very good at it.

I agree, if you are looking to overclock it, you'll have to do that in the bios, not sure if there are any software OC tools in Linux but even OC'ing doesn't force the cpu to a static frequency, it just expands its upper limit.
