Google Earth dependency libc 2.4 under Kubuntu 6.06
Hello,
Is it possible / advisable to upgrade Kubuntu 6.06's libc from 2.3.6 to 2.4 for purposes of installing Google Earth? If so, how might a newbie go about this? (Compaq Presario M2000.)
Or, would I be better installing Feisty or just leaving Google Earth to the Windows people?
It may or may not be possible, my personal answer is that I don't care & I wouldn't do it even if it were, unless the upgrade were part of 'buntu official LTS maintainance. Why? -- The "LTS" says it all: Long Term Support (== Long Term Stability). That is why I will be migrating to SimplyMEPIS 6.0 or later 6.5 (they use the Dapper, i.e. 6.06 LTS repositories). If you don't care about LTS, then, by all means, upgrade to Edgy or Feisty.
If I were you, & my hardware would support it, I would consider running Edgy &/or Feisty as a VM inside Dapper. As you might guess, I value stability in my desktop.
I'm w/ you on stability - the whole reason for migrating from Windows. -It just so happens one of the guys over in the Debian group says there may be stability issues, and Google Earth just isn't that important.
Also, thanks for not only the quick reply, but actually putting useful information in it. I've found that there are plenty here who don't deal well with newbies.
