flash plugin crashes in firefox under ubuntu edgy

hello ,

I am using Kubuntu 6.10 edgy with firefox2.

When I add flash plugin in firefox it crashes and shut down the browser window immediately on opening some flash content having webpage.

But if I remove flash plughin which is in /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/ libflashplayer.so then firefox works normally.

I also tried firefox after downloading from mozilla.com web site in tar.gz format. It also creating the same problem.

I did try flash plugin both from adobe web site as well as from kubuntu repositries.

Waiting for

Have a look at this as an answer to your problem.

http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_E...ozilla_Firefox

That worked for me. In particular, I had to use this part of the suggested solution to get round the problem of Firefox crashing.

Note: if firefox crashes when visiting a website with flash content, do the following:

sudo gedit /usr/bin/firefox

and add the following line as last but one line of the file:

export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1

Now firefox shouldn't crash anymore. (Launchpad bug report: [1])

Thanks Interdictor

Problem solved by adding

export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1

in firefox executable as you mentioned above.

Linux Lover-

I found a good Flash 9 install walkthrough for Ubuntu 6.10 it is at http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/index.php

I now have Flash 9 installed and it works pretty well except on some news sites that use flash for the video playback don't work. All I get is audio.
