Error on adding gpg keys

Hi

Whenever I'm using Ubuntu 7.04 amd64, and whenever I try to add a gpg key with a command such as
Quote:
wget http://janvitus.interfree.it/ubuntu/2C4C84CC.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -
I get an error which looks like this:
Quote:
Error parsing proxy URL http://:8080/: Invalid host name.
gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found.
I recently had to unpick a conversion to Ubuntu Christian Edition, as the dansguardian which was installed messed things up, if that's of any relevance.

Any thoughts? Thanks

Do your wget to download the key by itself then gpg --import 2C4C84CC.gpg and gpg --armour -export 2C4C84CC | sudo apt-key add - importing first into the keyring then you export from keyring to apt-key, you might have to check the syntax its been awhile since I used the commands.

Thanks for the reply, but check that last post - I think it's a problem with wget: it states

Quote:
Error parsing proxy URL http://:8080/: Invalid host name.
...every time I use it.
How can I fix this?

Have you tried opening a browser and right clicking on the link and using the save as both that and the wget command works here.

Code:
[09:07 PM Sat Jun 09: stephen @ ~]
>$ wget http://janvitus.interfree.it/ubuntu/2C4C84CC.gpg
--21:08:18--  http://janvitus.interfree.it/ubuntu/2C4C84CC.gpg

If you want and cannot get it any other way just cut'n'paste into a file the output of the cat command I show above then import it into your keyring.

Hmmm. Fixed it -

I edited /etc/wgetrc
and uncommented the line

Quote:
use_proxy = on
and changed it to:

Quote:
use_proxy = off
Things seem ok now.
