Unhappy Error Message when updating

I get this error when I try to update manager.

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

I opened up a terminal to run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
and get the following:

kurule@T30:~$ run 'dpkg --configure -a'
bash: run: command not found
kurule@T30:~$

What am I doing wrong? Sorry I an new with Ubuntu 7.04. Thank you for the help.

Thank you for the help.

I tried the command as stated above and it reads it requires a superuser

I typed "SU" and it asked for a password, which I only know of, which is to log-on to the computer. What now?

Oops, Ubuntu uses sudo - it will require your password
Code:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
