Epson printer not printing correctly

I have an Epson Stylus color 660 printer. When I try to print the blacks are very pale grey and the colours are non existant. The only driver available is guttenprint and half a page takes about 2 hours to print. It was installed vis the printer wizard. Any help how I can get this to work correctly? I'm trying to get it working with Ubuntu 6.06 Under windoze it does print ok with sharpe black and good colour
Thanks
