cds only play through sound juicer

i am trying to play cds through various apps. the programs i have tried on the command line are dcd, cdcd, and gui based is kscd. i can get the cds to show that they are playing but no sound comes from the speakers. the only way i was successfully able to listen to cds is through sound juicer, which opens automatically when a cd is inserted. i have no idea why this would be happening. looking for some insight.

The other players are'nt using DAE. If you want sound through the other players you either have to enable DAE manually through the configuration, or simply run analog connectors from your cd-rom drive to your soundcard.

while in amarok, play cd is shaded out. would this have anything to do with DAE? and i wouldnt be able to fun analog connectors bc there is no way im about to open up my laptop.
