Sound Juicer not recognizing my CD drive/playing CDs?

I'm trying to rip a CD using Sound Juicer/lame, but sound juicer doesn't seem to recognize that there is a CD in the drive. It's recognizing the drive, but there's nothing in it(aparently). Thoughts?

It may be that something in linux isn't recognizing the CD format...how do I get it to do that?

***EDIT****
I needed HAL(hardware exctraction layer) and udev. It's now recognizing the CDs. However, when I try to extact them it gives me this error

Code:

Sound Juicer could not extract this CD.
Reason: Could not create GStreamer encoder ((null))

Thoughts? I followed the instructions in order to get MP3s from http://www.emcken.dk/weblog/archives...nd-Juicer.html
