Cant edit gdm.conf remotely ???

Hi,

I am ssh-ing to my linux box and trying to edit gdm.conf.
Although the file permissions show that I have write permissions, the editor says the file is write protected and wont allow me to edit it.
Is that because I am ssh-ing and trying to edit remotely ?

Is there any way I can edit gdm.conf remotely ?

Sure you can, but the file needs to be edited as root. Log in remotely then use sudo to edit the file. For example:
1) Log in remotely to your administrator account
2)sudo pico /etc/gdm/gdm.conf
You'll be able to save the changes since pico will run with root privileges on the remote host.
