Can Ubuntu 7.04 detect HD connected to ATA66 Controller

Hi folks,

I'm prepared to install Ubuntu 7.04 on an old P-III box with HD connected to onboard Abit ATA66 controller.

Motherboard - Abit BE6

Can't Ubuntu detect the HD at time of installation? TIA

Did you try it? That's the quickest way to find the answer to many questions.

I can't find my answer there. Previous I post on Ubuntu to see whether Ubuntu works on HPT-366 controller with no reply.

I found following threads;

Booting from the HPT366 interface

The Linux Ultra-DMA Mini-Howto

The solution is not simple.

satimis,
Those links you have given refer to 1999, and a 2.2.x kernel!!!!
Believe it or not, things have moved on quite a bit since then.
As stress_junkie says, try it. I would be very surprised if it didn't work.

Hi tredegar and stress_junkie,

With following connection and setup

ATA100 HD - as master IDE3
DVD Writer - as master IDE2
BIOS - EXT = UDMA66

I installed Ubuntu desktop 7.04 on this old P-III PC. It is now running. I'm now posting on this forum while running Ubuntu.

But F-7 failed to install on above setup. OpenBSD 4.1 also worked.

Tks
