Indeed. If being cynical is how he wants to cattle users he's in for a surprise. "Being too cool" for usability, slickness, and ease of use is an oxymoron, and a dumb statement for a supposed leader to make. Besides, Unity isn't any of those things: if that were the case, people would be jumping en masse to Unity. It just isn't happening, more like the reverse in fact, and Mr. Shuttleworth is playing deaf and blind. That's reality speaking to someone who just won't acknowledge, but will instead respond to it like children would do: with disrespect.
I use Ubuntu since years now. I'm at the point now where I perceive this single man influence on all the F/OSS movement as one of the most negative.
