LXer: Mozilla's "Do Not Track" header gaining support

Mozilla, the non-profit organisation behind the Firefox web browser, has announced that it's proposed "Do Not Track" (DNT) header is gaining industry support. In a post on the Mozilla Blog, Alex Fowler, Technology and Privacy Officer for the Mozilla Foundation, says that "Two developments bring it closer to being respected by industry".

"Do-not-track" requires website support. I wonder why browsers do not implement separate "sandboxes" for cookies, dependent of the embedding host: The tracker "foo-track.com" would see a completely different set of cookies when called by "music-bar.com", compared to when called by "baz-shoes.com". Like two browser profiles (only for cookies). Wouldn't that solve the problem before regulating consequences are required?
