Will compiling my own kernel effect upgrade to 9.2???

Hi, I was just wondering since SUSE controls the kernel through RPM, will it cause any problems upgrading from SUSE 9.1 to SUSE 9.2 if I have my own kernel compiled??? Will it just delete it??? Do any of the Novell guys here know what will happen?

i'm not sure about suse, but i have seen that distros do one of two things during the upgrade/install process -- they prompt you as to which kernel to use, or (more commonly) they say they're installing everything (without talking about kernels = they think you won't know what they are talking about and therefore they should just go ahead and install a kernel for you.)

= back up your kernel (and source - for recompilation) before making major system changes...

-- since you have compiled your own kernel, i assume you are comfortable with the process, and therefore i wonder from where your concern arises... -- if it overwrites your custom kernel, can't you just re-install it?

Well, no, I just wasn't sure if it would mess up the upgrade process me having my own kernel. This happened to be once on (Mandrake, I think). Just wondering if YaST is able to figure out what is going on...or will it just as if it is a bunch of extra files?

I think it just gets deleted, so you'll have to compile it again.
