Updates via Modem under SUSE 10.0?
Hi all,
I am considering installing SUSE 10.0 in an unused partition (I can do that using the SUSE installer, right?).
One of the big draws for me is the update tool, which according to Mick Bauer's article in April 2006 Linux Journal will alert you to critical updates for software and enable generally incompetent users like me to obtain the updates easily. But one review I found at Distrowatch implied that the reviewer might had some trouble getting this to work. Has anyone here experienced any problems with automatic updates?
In my case, a possible spanner in the works is that I have dial-up access, not DSL. My connection does tend to be dropped every 24 hours or so (if I happen to be connected for more than 12 hours, which doesn't often happen). Would this be a huge problem? I have the impression there might be some way for the updates to resume after something like this happens, as for dpkg in Debian derived distros. But I never could get this feature of dpkg to work. Has anyone any relevant SUSE 10.0 experience/tips to share? Could dial-up access be a serious problem for me, at least for the initial upgrades immediately after installation?
TIA! Peufelon
