suse10.0 fresh instal(no_gcc),, need ICmedia webcam drivers!

hullo all again, I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place for the post- and for its content- but I have a similar ploblem as previously discussed regarding my lack of gcc on the fresh install of suse10.0 from magazineDVD-- I did figure this out before but have not been able to do it again since a recent re-install.

I have downloaded gcc 4.0.2, glibc2.3.3-10 and glibc-devel 2.3.3-10 but I am getting a pile of dependance conflicts under yast when trying to install glibc? I think I maybe ignored last time and the rest installed OK but I dunno if I am just off in my versions or if there is an easier resolution?

I am trying to compile ic532 driver source to drive my ic media webcam. Maybe someone also knows where I can find the drivers ready to go?

cheers, jd

I would use yast to download and install the packages you need. But you will have to add an installation source pointing to one of online repositories. for example::

add: pick http or ftp:

server name: mirrors.kernel.org
Directory on server: suse/inst-source/10.0/

or something similar to that. You'll have to go to a repo mirror to get the exact path.

Then once that's added, use YaST to get whatever you desire.

still muckin around here...

hey, thanks for the reply- I am still wrestling with the webcam installation but I did manage to get gcc and g++ installed by going the Yast & rpm route,, also found an rpm for the spca5xx driver so installed that as well.

For some reason unknown to me I still cannot enable the camera. I have been reading through a book I got from the library for help but it is vauge about that area but delves into general info about other hardware driver installation. I have also been looking around online for more specific info and did find a bit but those issued commands did not reveal any enabled device. The installed driver appears to be a module- with a .ko suffix and I also tried the modprobe -v spca5xx command but it gives an error of
FATAL: Module spca5xx not found.

the actual .ko is located in /etc/modules/2.6.13-15.8-default/kernel/drivers/usb/media/ so I dunno if it needs to be located somehwre else or what is going on. just alot of vauge info and some outdated books.

anyideas about how to properly enable the ic media webcam based on the spca5xx driver anyone? cheers, jd
