how do I instal ati drivers

I'm a damn newbie I'm afraid - and I need help. I'm running Suse 9.2 pro and have a radeon 9600 which I'd like to get working properly. I've downloaded the latest drivers from ati and installed it using Yast but 3d is still unavailable - can someone please walk me thru the instal process - thanks
