SuSE 9.2 pro question before installation

I want to do LOW format to all hard-disk and install SuSE 9.2 and WinXP pro(just for games)

Because im newbie here are my questions:

My Hard-disk is 60GB and I want to have separate partition just for WinXP (20gb) and all other for Linux SuSE.

Lets say that hard-disk is empty::

- Do I install SuSE or WinXP first?
- Do i have to create partition just for WinXP in case I installing Windows first and should I create other partitions or leave it empty?
- What file system to use for WinXP and what for SUSE partitions?

Can anybody tell me quick steps to do this job properly?

Thanks!

Actually, this is all pretty much automated in Suse. Quick answers:

**Install Windows first.
**Boot Suse and choose the option to resize your Windows partition, which will then give you a dual boot system.

Either, if you are careful. I'd install SuSe first if I were you though, XP likes to format everything into a large NTFS drive. At least, that's happened everytime I've installed XP (I know, you can do it. Blah balh blah...). SuSe will let you setup partitions easier then XP will.

-Windows needs it's own partition.
-If you install windows first, and manage to get it to leave other paritions alone, just leave them unformated. Suse will take care of that for you.
-Fyi: By defualt XP will format the whole drive for itself as C:. You [i/can[/i] make it only use a small chunk, but I've found it to be sketchy at times. If you have this large C: drive, SuSe can't use it to install, but you can use PartitionMagic (or the program of your choice) to crop the partition and make room for SuSe.

You sound like a noobie (no offence. I was (read: still am) a noobie too.), so just I recommend letting Suse use it's defaults for now. Just point it to the partition and let it do it's stuff.

I believe the Suse installer is fairly straight forward. Just read everything before clicking next

I made an extra FAT32 partition to save my works there, so windoze and SuSE can read and write there.

You definately ned to install Windows first (on it's own partition). The Windows MBR will not work with Linux if you install it second, and Lilo or Grub will not boot when it is overwritten by Windows.

Linux will set up the bootloader correctly if it is installed to it's own partition and of the bootlaoder is palced on the first partiton (default setting)

The reply that JSpired made (first reply) is the right thing to do. XP first, SuSE 9.2 second. Always. When in the part of the install that has you review the proposed software to install, customize it and choose all of KDE. When you are all done with everything, you can go into the bootloader menu in the control center and change the time the bootloader waits to boot to Linux, I changed mine to 60 seconds.
