SuSE 10.2 booting problem using fake RAID

Hi All,

I am installing openSuSe 10.2 (64bit) on ASUS P5B motherboard with two SATA disks. Setting in BIOS for disks is RAID.
I installed two RAID 1 partitions. First for /boot and second for LVM (/, /home, ...).
After the first installation phase I could boot only from SuSE install DVD, initiated the install again and chose to boot the installed OS.
The second phase of installation was OK, but now I can boot only from DVD again like after the first phase.
As far as I can see, the installation is perfect, the only problem is the booting.

What can be the problem?

Regards, Zoltan

Pardon me for not seeing the obvious, but did you use the SUSE partitioner to set up the array or the mobo raid? If it's the SUSE raid, check your boot menu and make sure it's booting from md* and not sd*. Also, you should be seeing where it's croaking by using 'esc' when it's booting instead of just watching the splash screen.

I used SUSE partitioner. I would have liked to use mobo RAID, but I could not find any information how to set it. If I try to boot up, I get the message "Missing operating system" instead of splash screen.

You'll have to boot into rescue mode, mount md1 and check the boot menu. It sounds like grub doesn't know how to boot so you are going to have to tell it.

It seems not to boot my SuSE if /boot is on a RAID partition.
I have put /boot on a non-RAID partition and my problem has been solved.
Than you for your help.
