Screen flashes color on gdm/xdm load

I just purchased a new HP Mini-Note and was setting it up. Apparently it doesn't seem to support 3D acceleration, and that's where I must have caused this problem. I seem to have enabled agp dma acceleration accidentally, however removing that configuration line in my xorg.conf doesn't fix the problem. The symptom? Everytime I start gdm (or xdm), it flashes the whole screen in this order: white, red, green, blue, light grey, dark grey, vertical gradient, horizontal gradient, black, and repeats. I can only edit in failsafe mode, but once again, if I start it I just get the screen strobe even after I removed that line. Any ideas, anyone? If all else fails I guess I'll start cashing in on my warranty, but that's a depressing state of affairs when I've only had it a day. Any help would be appreciated.

Nevermind, I had a backup xorg.conf kicking around and replacing it did the trick.
