Resize a Logical Partition in SuSE 10.2

I have filled up the /usr partition on SuSe 10.2. /usr is a logical partition in the logical volume group (system). The logical volume group is configured with the default settings. I currently have 32 GB of unallocated space on the system volume group. I would like to add some of this to /usr to clear up my problem. My logical partitions are formatted with the ext3 file system.

I tried booting from the installation CD and using the partitioner to extend /usr. However, it told me that there was not enough space on the disk to extend this partition. I believe that I missed a step or 2 in between. What is the proper procedure to add space to /usr, keeping in mind that I am using logical volumes/partitions and the ext3 file system???

My usual procedures are:

lvextend -L +5G /dev/vg1/lvusr
resize_resierfs /dev/vg1/lvusr

Replace vg1 with your volume group name a lvusr with the logical volume for your usr partition.
Of course -L +5G will increase it by 5 gigs, you can omit the + to specify the exact size and replace the G with M for megabytes.

Since you use ext3, I think the resizer is 'resize2fs'. From the looks of the man page, online resizeing is permitted with ext3, so you don't have to unmount your filesystem.
