problems with booting after using poweroff command

I scheduled (by using at command) to turn off my computer by using poweroff command.
But,when i tried to start the computer,it tries to boot and then off and again i used to switch on,it works.

So,after using poweroff, i need to switch on my computer twice.
How can I solve this problem.

I am using suse 10.1

Instead of shutdown, use halt.
Alternatively, use shutdown -h
(Interestingly, using shutdown on my computer gives me a warning that halt should be used... though I don't remember the distro I use... grml probably)
