Open SuSE 10.3 network issue

During 10.3 x86-64 install the network test succeeds and downloads updates. after that....I can't connect to the network.
All nic devices are configured dhcp and get ip addresses. I can ping the n ics with units on the same switch but from beyond the switch. However, I have 2 different untis with 10.3 on the same switch than can get outside just fine. Firewall is disabled
